What personal data we collect and why we collect it


When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. If you contact us we will have a copy of the information you entered. This is only kept for reference to help deal with your enquiry. After that it will not be used for any other purpose.


If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

We use Clicky and Google analytics to give us feedback on how well promotions are working and how users interact with the site. This way we can improve the visitors overall experience on this site.

We don't actually phone them up and tell them Jimmy Smith from Aberdeen was online today. We have no idea if this fictitious person was or wasn't. These companies get information from your PC unless you have turned your cookies off on your browser.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

We will change all our passwords and let people know of any breaches where possible. However we do not store much information on the site about anyone so in the event of a security breach there won't really be any information available to hackers.  We do not process or take any payments so nobody can access or hack this information from us,

What third parties we receive data from

Information from social media websites: When you interact with any Bargain Sun page or account on a social media platform, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or LinkedIn, we may collect the personal information that you or the platform make available to us on that page or account, including your social media account ID and/or user name associated with that social media service, your profile picture, email address, friends list or information about the people and groups you are connected to and how you interact with them, and any information you have made public in connection with that social media service. The information we obtain depends on your privacy settings on the applicable social media service; we will comply with the privacy policies of the social media platform and we will only collect and store such personal information that we are permitted to collect by those social media platforms. When you access the Services through social media services or when you connect the Services to social media services, you are authorizing Bargain Sun to collect.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

You sign up to our email service, we send you holiday emails. You unsubscribe, your email address is removed and is deleted. 

Hopefully this explains what happens in as simple a way as possible. We don't sell what little of your information we have from you.
